Education and exploration is at the heart and soul of who Sphero is, so we are thrilled to announce our donation to DonorsChoose.org to kick off the New Year.
With the support of key donors: Anchor Point Foundation, Silicon Valley Bank, Foundry Group Needham & Company, Flex Logistics and Nasco – we’re donating more than $110,000 to DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit helping teachers crowdfund necessary tools and essential tech to help their students succeed in the classroom. This donation will help to serve the DonorsChoose.org mission of empowering public school teachers to bring essential learning tools and experiences in high-need classrooms.
With the donation, Sphero will match qualifying Sphero products and activities classroom requests. Currently, DonorsChoose.org has more than 200+ projects requesting Sphero products, a testament to need of STEAM learning tools across the nation. Students will be able to, some for the first time, experience Sphero’s vision of incorporating robotics and technology with fun through Sphero Mini, Sphero BOLT, Sphero Specdrums and other Sphero favorites.
“We believe every student should have access to high-quality STEAM and computer science education tools. We are excited for DonorsChoose.org teachers to empower the future creators of tomorrow with Sphero robots and STEAM learning activities through the use of our Sphero Edu app, nurturing students’ creativity while gaining 21st-century skills,” said Paul Berberian, CEO, Sphero.
Nasco, one of our donors who supplies STEAM education products in schools, will fulfill the teacher project above to Mrs S’s classroom in Winston Salem, NC. All other teacher projects can be found here on DonorsChoose. Educators interested in buying Sphero products directly from Nasco can find them here.
Sphero embraces the knowledge that play is a powerful teacher. Every product that Sphero creates helps to enhance traditional classroom practices, engaging kids in meaningful journeys while they learn the fundamentals of STEAM and computer science.
“When I look at the impact Sphero has made in my 8th-grade science classroom, I think of all the opportunities they have opened up for exploring science in exciting and meaningful ways. The opportunity to learn through hands-on, unconventional ways has made such a difference in my classroom. Sphero’s generous donation to DonorsChoose.org will give more teachers access to these tools and engage their students in computer science,” said Leah Lacrosse, Sphero Hero and 8th– grade science teacher, Huron City Schools, Ohio.
